A super day of Women & Girls ILCA training at Prestwick Sailing Club on Saturday 3rd October. Seven sailors took part, representing a brilliant mix of ages and abilities.
The wind was a perfect direction of South Westerly giving an on shore breeze and a wind strength of 12 - 18knts and in true Prestwick style some fantastic waves. This gave us the main focus of the day, with most the morning concentrating on upwind technique and learning how to work with the waves followed with some fantastic downwind surfing coming in for lunch.
Coaching was led by Oscar Shilling, supported by Tess Cook, who did a superb job explaining the different types of waves and how to maximise speed and efficiency over them.
A huge thank you to Prestwick Sailing Club for hosting and to Sarah Green for organising the session. ILCA UK remains committed to supporting female sailors, and more Women & Girls ILCA training sessions are planned. To book please visit Events: ILCA UK.
None of these opportunities would be possible without the continued support of the RYA through the Evolution Fund, Sport England, and Sailingfast, who have generously provided equipment to help grow female participation in the class.
We're always looking for volunteers and for clubs interested in supporting Women & Girls ILCA activity. If you or your club would like to get involved, please get in touch at .
