Finding Stillness Between the Waves
by Leanne Hembrow 1 Oct 03:47 BST
In November of 2021, we captured a life at sea with Yoga in Of breathing, pretzels, and other funky things… It explored how yoga became part of Leanne Hembrow's life afloat, and her new book, Finding Stillness Between the Waves, captures how those years remain with her now.
Book description
One dream. Four boats. Countless horizons.
In Finding Stillness Between the Waves, I share the realities of leaving a familiar life to sail across the Pacific and through the Americas with my husband, John. Aboard Migaloo, Red Sky, Turn the Page and Songlines, we found extraordinary places and communities, alongside storms, loss and the challenges of making a life at sea.
Yoga became an anchor throughout the journey. What began as my own practice grew into a way to connect with people wherever we made landfall. This is a memoir about sailing, love, resilience and finding stillness amid change.

Excerpt from Chapter 30, “The Ocean Never Leaves You”
The smell of salt air drifting across a ferry crossing.
The creak of ropes against a mast in a marina.
The sight of seabirds circling above choppy water.
A weather forecast rolling across the television.
Wind moving through trees sounding almost like rigging humming offshore.
And instantly I am transported.
Back to night watches beneath impossible stars.
Back to dawn light spilling across anchorages.
Back to barefoot mornings rolling out a yoga mat on the aft deck while the world still slept.
