In less than two short years the Olympics will be in Los Angeles. The sailing events will take place in San Pedro and Long Beach. The US has a long history of success in sailing at the Olympics. In fact, the last time the Olympics were in LA the US won medals in every event. Things have changed since 1984. In the last 20 years, the US have won only two sailing medals in the last four Games.
One Southern California group is working to ensure that the LA28 Games sets a new direction for US Olympic Sailors. Layline to LA28, a grassroots volunteer fundraising effort aims to fill the gap by raising funds to support America One Racing's (A1R) Project Podium. A1R is the US's leading group supporting today's top US Olympic sailing aspirants.
A1R Project Podium is already delivering impressive results for the US on the world stage. In September alone, A1R athlete Charlotte Rose won the ILCA6 World Championship, the first US woman to win since 2005 and A1R athlete Noah Lyons finished second at IQFoil Worlds. Top five results are also being delivered in world events in the Men's and Women's skiff (49er) classes.
A1R Project Podium enables top US sailor/athletes to professionalize their campaigns for results on the Olympic stage. It provides elite coaching and sports science, sailing technique is refined through iteration and experience learned. All training is grounded in the conviction that excellence should be engineered, not improvised. A core precept of A1R Project Podium is that 100% of funds raised go to support the athletes.
Layline to LA28 is led by experienced Southern California sailors Chris and Mary Snow with the support of many Southern California yacht clubs and a core team of volunteers. The effort aims to unite the Southern California sailing community to come together and support the US's best Olympic class sailors in their quest of winning Olympic Gold in the summer of 2028. Outreach through local sailing groups and yacht clubs has already begun.
Layline to LA28 will bring Southern California's sailing community together at San Diego Yacht Club on Friday, November 20, for a celebration and fundraising evening. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the athletes and coaches, see the boats, and hear the stories behind their campaigns. Rolex 2026 Yachtsman of the Year, Paul Cayard, will emcee the evening, along with a special film from broadcast legend Gary Jobson celebrating past and future U.S. Olympic sailing. Past Olympic medalists will join athletes and guests throughout the evening, which will conclude with a limited live auction and paddle raise benefiting America One Racing Project Podium.
