66 X-Yachts set for Silverrudder Challenge of the Sea

66 X-Yachts. One lap around Funen. One skipper each. September brings one of the highlights of the Scandinavian sailing calendar: Silverrudder Challenge of the Sea.

Starting and finishing in Svendborg, the race takes single-handed sailors around the island of Fyn. There are no measurement rules and no corrected times. The concept is simple: one skipper, one yacht, and elapsed time around the course.

This year, 447 yachts across seven groups are set to take on the challenge - a clear reflection of the growing appeal of single-handed sailing.

Among them are no fewer than 66 X-Yachts.

The three-striped fleet within the fleet spans generations of X-Yachts design. The X-79, X-99 and X-332 each account for eight entries, alongside models from across our performance and cruising ranges. It is a fleet that reflects more than four decades of X-Yachts. You will find multiple X-382s, X-412, X-35s, X4.0s and even an old X3/4-Ton. Different generations of boats and sailors, different design philosophies, but all up for the same challenge: sailing single-handed through the night around the island of Funen.

At the sharp end of the fleet, the latest chapter of our model line will also be represented. Two XR 41s are set to take the start line, including Henrik Jørgensen aboard X-Box and our own colleague Anders Bastiansen aboard Formula X2.

For the XR 41, a race like Silverrudder is particularly relevant. Developed as a versatile performance platform, the yacht can be configured for different styles of sailing, including short-handed use, placing handling, efficiency and, outright sailing performance at the centre of the experience.
