The yachts participating in Aegean Regatta 2026 have arrived in Marathokampos, Samos, as the international sailing event, organized for the 25th time by the General Secretariat for the Aegean and Island Policy of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, in cooperation with the Hellenic Sailing Federation Offshore Committee, enters its decisive phase.

The third race for the ORC Club and Non-Spinnaker categories, from Agathonisi to Marathokampos, started with a light northerly breeze near Agathonisi. Midway through the course, the wind weakened considerably, while local land breezes later shaped the conditions all the way to the finish line. The race proved highly demanding from a tactical perspective, with crews required to make crucial decisions in selecting the best route. From the afternoon onwards, the yachts began arriving in Marathokampos, filling the harbor and creating a spectacular sight.

The arrival of the crews in Samos was accompanied by a special surprise. At the entrance of Marathokampos harbor, they were welcomed by three traditional wooden fishing boats moored side by side, their vivid colors creating a magical scene. Among them stood out "Megalochari", the largest lateen-rigged vessel in Greece, owned by the Museum of Aegean Shipbuilding and Maritime Arts in Heraion, Samos.

The historic vessel first went out for a training sail and later entered Marathokampos harbor under full sail, where it will participate in this year's event. Its presence also marks the introduction of a new Traditional Wooden Boats Category within the Aegean Regatta. Through this initiative, the organizers pay tribute to the people who keep the traditional wooden vessels of the Aegean alive, linking the region's rich maritime heritage with modern sailing.

On the occasion of the completion of the leg from Agathonisi to Samos, the President of the Hellenic Sailing Federation Offshore Committee, Konstantinos Kalogeropoulos, expressed his sincere thanks to the Mayor and the residents of Agathonisi for the hospitality they extended to the sailors.

"We feel the need to thank the Mayor and the residents of Agathonisi for the wonderful evening they offered to all participants. It was truly a feast of sounds, images and authentic island atmosphere, showcasing in the best possible way the unique character of their island," he stated.
