Europe class European Championship 2026 at Biscarrosse, France

by AFE 10 Aug 10:22 BST 2-8 August 2026

The Centre Nautique Biscarrosse Olympique (CNBO) hosted the Europe Class European Championship from 2 to 8 August 2026. Among 118 competitors from ten nations, it was French sailor Cyril Richard who was crowned European Champion.

On Lake Biscarrosse-Latécoère, in the Landes region of south-west France, the Europe Class European Championship concluded on 8 August with a standout performance from the host nation. Cyril Richard — a member of the Cercle de la Voile d'Arcachon (Gironde) and sailing with sails from French local sailmaker VB Voiles — dominated the regatta from start to finish, winning seven of the ten races against a strong international fleet that included several former world champions and Olympians. He leaves Biscarrosse with the European Championship title.

Organised by the CNBO — which was determined to hold the event despite wildfires that recently affected the Biscarrosse area, leaving visible damage to parts of the forest surrounding the lake — the regatta brought together 118 sailors from ten nations, including France, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom, across five days of racing in light and shifting winds.
