Day 1 abandoned - Scorpion National Championship at Looe © LSC
After the hustle and bustle of 65 Scorpions arriving into Looe the fleet were excited for day 1 of racing. With light winds forecast the race team had already posted a change to SIs to shorten the practice race to just a practice gate start to make the most of the limited wind window.
The fleet gathered in the boat park to bright sunshine but as predicted not a lot of breeze. The race team swiftly postponed for an hour but the wind did not materialise and after another one hour postponement racing was abandoned for the day.
The fleet enjoyed many activities throughout the day with lots of time for boat bimbling, catching up with friends along with beach games and seaweed fights in the sea!
The SWAGS enjoyed lunch and cream tea hosted by Amy and Charlotte. The Cornish bottomless brunch turned into a masterclass in mastication as they demolished basket after basket of fresh scones between glasses of fizz.
This evening's social was Pro AM drinks where PRO AM teams got together to introduce themselves, make new friends, talk tactics and match their Scorpion tickets together to claim their free PRO AM drinks!
With the trusty pecker going into retirement, the first "champagne moments" hosted by Zoe and Fiona was introduced! The champagne moments are the opportunity to celebrate the greatness of the fleet. This could be where people have gone above and beyond, really helped someone, put themselves out of their comfort zone, or just generally being a supportive, good egg of the fleet.
The night was topped off with the "youth social". With 30 youths in the fleet this year it was a great opportunity for the next generation of Scorpion sailors to get to know each other. A big thank you to Rach and Pete for organising a great evening of beach games and beers!
Monday's racing is set for 1pm and the hope of some more wind to get the 2026 Scorpion Nationals off the mark.
