XOD Captain's Cup at North Sails Cowes Week 2026 - Day 2

by Rory Paton 3 Aug 08:03 BST 1-7 August 2026

Sunday bought a gentle easterly and supposedly a fair tide beat to Collette in Ozzy Ozbourne's bay. Sadly the fleet was keen and there was a general recall and the Unicorn flag was fired up for the restart.

Amazingly only two boats transgressed and off we went. Astralita and Lone Star got away and stayed away. Sadly your correspondent was a bit, ahem on the wrong side of things in more ways than one. At one stage the separation between left and right sides of the beat was over 3 miles. The left got richer and the right poorer.

Because of the recall and the tide turning a bit earlier the next mark Royal Thames became a bit of a wind round. On a beat back to Collette the fleet split with those going left gaining.

At the end Astralita won ahead of Catherine, but because took a time penalty for hitting a mark, Lone Star got her second 2nd place in a row. Lymington's youth bursary team XL had a great race in 9th place.
