For the second year running, North Lincs & Humberside Sailing Club (NLHSC) hosted its two-day Regatta, welcoming visitors from neighbouring clubs on 18-19 July.
The event featured eight short handicap races across the weekend, attracting a fleet of 20 boats from NLHSC and Welton Sailing Club. While the handicap format showcased a wide variety of classes including a Miracle, Heron, Topper Xenon, Solo and Supernova. But, the ILCA 7 and ILCA 4 fleets proved the most popular, accounting for 15 of the 20 entries.
Saturday greeted competitors with a steady and rather unusual northerly wind of 10-15 knots. A figure-of-eight course, featuring two upwind legs at either end of the lake, produced close and competitive racing throughout the day. The ILCA 7 fleet dominated the results, claiming all four race wins. Will Kebbell took victory in the opening race before Russ Skelton won races two and three. Owen Eyles rounded off the day with victory in race four.
Following Saturday's racing, competitors and club members enjoyed an evening of live music, a barbecue and camping, creating a fantastic social atmosphere to complement the on-the-water action.
Sunday brought similar wind conditions, although the course was changed to a box configuration with a single upwind leg. The revised layout made for even closer racing, but the ILCA 7 sailors maintained their dominance by winning all four races once again. Sam Skelton claimed the first race of the day, Brian Henline took victories in races two and four, while Russ Skelton added another win in race three.
After eight closely contested races, Russ Skelton won the overall Regatta. Brian Henline finished second overall, with Sam Skelton completing the podium in third.
Following another successful event, North Lincs & Humberside Sailing Club looks forward to welcoming competitors back for the 2027 Regatta.
