Sunsail, featured in The Odyssey with Dan Snow, a new documentary on 5, launches a new Lefkas bareboat itinerary inspired by the journey.

Sunsail has launched a new bareboat itinerary in Lefkas, shaped around the Ionian waters linked to Homer's Odyssey.

The seven-day route sails from Lefkas to Meganisi, Ithaca, Agios Nikolaos and Sivota, combining easy passages, clear water, quiet anchorages, sea caves and harbour villages along the way.

The launch follows Sunsail's collaboration with historian and broadcaster Dan Snow and the History Hit team, who travelled to Lefkas to film a new documentary. The programme will air on 5 on 16 July 2026 from 9:00 pm to 10:30 pm BST. A two-part documentary featuring more detail on Dan's voyage with Sunsail will also be released globally on History Hit's subscription service on the same day. The release comes as Homer's Odyssey returns to the cultural spotlight this summer, with a major new film adaptation from Christopher Nolan also bringing the story to a wider audience.

Dan and the team sailed aboard Sunsail's award-winning yachts, the Sunsail 424 and Sunsail 44.4, visiting key locations across the Ionian while retracing parts of Odysseus' journey from Troy into open water.

Dan Snow, Founder and Creative Director of History Hit said:

"One of the joys of filming the documentary was experiencing the Ionian as it was always meant to be explored - by sea. Sailing allows you to appreciate the islands, coastlines and hidden anchorages in a completely different way. Sunsail's new itinerary gives people the opportunity to experience that for themselves, combining the freedom of sailing with the chance to connect with one of the greatest stories ever told."

For Sunsail guests, the new route brings that story back to the water.

Sail into Ithaca. Swim before breakfast. Drop anchor where the water turns blue. Tie up beside a village quay and let the evening find you. It is a week made for sailors who want freedom at the helm, with a story on the horizon.

Eleni Skarveli, Director UK & Ireland for the Greek National Tourism Organisation said:

"Few journeys have captured the imagination of travellers as profoundly as Odysseus' voyage home to Ithaca. The Ionian Islands offer visitors the rare opportunity to sail through landscapes where myth, history and nature intertwine, transforming one of the world's greatest epics by Homer into an authentic travel experience. Ithaca is not simply a destination, it is a reminder that the true value of every journey lies in the discoveries we make along the way."

Sunsail has been sailing the Ionian for decades. From its base at Lefkas Marina, and with further operations in Corfu, the brand has built extensive knowledge of these waters—reflected in its itineraries, yacht recommendations and passage planning.

The new Odyssey Lefkas bareboat itinerary is now available at 7 Day Bareboat 'Odyssey' Lefkas Itinerary
