Translated announces return to the Ocean Globe Race with renewed ambition

Translated, a leader in AI-powered language solutions, today announced the return of Translated 9 to the Ocean Globe Race and the opening of crew selections for the 2027 edition.

As in the previous campaign, applications are open to anyone, anywhere in the world, with selections running until 26 July 2026.

For Translated, the campaign is more than a sporting challenge. It is a demonstration of the company's belief that extraordinary results come from the power of human talent and trust - a philosophy that shapes everything Translated does.

Translated 9 is the most successful Italian yacht in Ocean Globe Race history. During the 2023 edition, they won the opening two legs and were among the protagonists in the following two, completing the full circumnavigation without modern navigation technology despite suffering a major hull breach along the way. Two unforeseen incidents cost them in the overall standings, but every leg they completed without setback, they won. Now, Translated is returning, again supported by Paul Cayard, with one goal: to win the race outright.

Unlike most elite sailing campaigns, the Translated 9 crew selection is designed to identify people for their mindset as much as their sailing experience. In line with the Ocean Globe Race regulations, the crew will include both professional sailors and non-professionals, with applications evaluated on motivation, resilience, teamwork, coachability and the ability to contribute to the success of the crew. Previous ocean sailing experience is not required for every role.

The previous selection attracted more than 1,500 applications from around the world. Twenty-seven people ultimately joined the crew, and remarkably 23 of them had never sailed across an ocean before.

The Ocean Globe Race recreates the spirit of the original Whitbread Round the World Race. Crews sail more than 27,000 nautical miles around the globe using only traditional navigation techniques: no GPS, no electronic charts and no satellite routing. Navigation relies on sextants, paper charts and celestial observations, while communication with the outside world is kept to an absolute minimum.

The announcement was made during a press conference at the Circolo Canottieri Aniene in Rome, attended by Marco Trombetti, founder of Translated and co-skipper of Translated 9 during the 2023 race, and Don McIntyre, Australian sailor, adventurer and founder of the Ocean Globe Race.
