St. Aubin's Bay promises to be a splash of colour and racing action this weekend when teams launch their Hobie Cats in the Channel Islands Hobie Cat Championships.
Hosted by the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club, this is the event's 35th year. Over 30 boats and around 60 crew are expected to participate in the Islands' Hobie flagship event of the year. There is a full weekend of competitive racing with three back-to-back races each day for the Hobie Cat classes which include, Adult and Youth teams on Hobie 16s, the 18ft Hobie Wildcats and Tigers and Juniors racing the 13ft Hobie Dragoons.
This year the Championships are entering a new chapter as Investec are the events new title sponsor, a company the RCIYC is delighted to be partnering with in one of the pinnacle events in the Clubs busy racing season.
The event will also provide a great opportunity for the club's Junior, Youth and adult teams who are training for the Hobie Multi European Championships set to be held at Maubuisson, France in August
Racing starts at 1:00pm on Saturday and 2:00pm on Sunday. Registration and crew weigh in is on Friday 10th July from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at the RCIYC where a complimentary drink is provided for all crews and volunteer helpers.
The forecast is looking good for the event, overall it promises to be an excellent weekend of Championships racing and fun social events for all those participating.
