Detroit's Bayview Yacht Club (BYC) today announced its intent to challenge for the 2027 Admiral's Cup, one of yacht-racing's premiere global events.
Team Bayview will pair BYC Members Peter Askew's TP52 "Wizard" with James Murray's Carkeek Fast 40+ "Callisto" in July 2027 for the event on European waters, long regarded as the world cup of offshore yacht racing.
Bayview Yacht Club 2026 Commodore Sandra Svoboda made the announcement today with Askew and Murray, Michigan natives who grew up sailing on the Great Lakes.
They shared the teams' plans to campaign under the BYC burgee in Europe, the Caribbean, and the United States over the next year in preparation for the Admiral's Cup and what it means to represent Detroit on the global stage.
"We learned as junior sailors on the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair that those waters can take you anywhere in the world. We're looking forward to lining up in Europe against some of the greatest offshore sailors in the world today," Askew said.
"With the Bayview Yacht Club Admiral's Cup challenge, we look forward to bringing our love of the sport and the competitive fire shared by all Great Lakes sailors to the international community," Murray said.
