The 2026 International Moth European Championship in Spain delivered its first full day of racing at Club Nàutic l'Escala, as improved conditions on the Mar d'Empúries allowed the fleet to complete four races.

After a challenging start to the week, the return of steady wind enabled the Race Committee to run a full schedule of four races and restore the competitive rhythm of the championship. Sailors took advantage of the conditions to showcase high-performance foiling, with dynamic racing and tight competition throughout the day.

Following the four races, Enzo Balenguer (Club la Pelle - Marseille) leads the provisional standings, ahead of Ryan Littlechild (Australian sailor) and John Harris (Woollahra Sailing Club) after an intense day on the water. With the fleet now fully under way, the championship enters a key phase, where consistency and performance will be decisive in shaping the final rankings.

The day before winds had remained very light, between 3 and 5 knots from the northeast, making it impossible to conduct races. Challenging sea conditions, with waves of up to one metre and opposing wind and swell directions, further complicated navigation and confirmed the Race Committee's decision to return ashore. Thankfully the event is now well under way.
