The 2026 ILCA 7 Masters World Championship is set to get under way in Athens, Greece, bringing together 86 sailors from 20 countries for a week of competitive racing in one of the world's most iconic sailing venues.

Organised by the Nautical Club of Kalamaki together with the ILCA Class Association, the championship will feature a strong international fleet across five Masters age categories.

The fleet includes:

  • 8 Apprentice Masters (30-44 years)
  • 12 Masters (45-54 years)
  • 34 Grand Masters (55-64 years)
  • 28 Great Grand Masters (65-74 years)
  • 4 Legend sailors (75 years and over)

The Legend category will make its debut at an ILCA 7 Masters World Championship, marking another milestone in the continued growth of Masters sailing and further highlighting the ILCA as a class for sailors of all ages.

Registration and equipment inspection were completed over the past two days, with competitors now looking ahead to the Opening Ceremony this evening and the start of racing tomorrow.

"We had a wonderful week at the ILCA 6 Championship, and now we are looking forward to an even more exciting time at the ILCA 7 Championship. I would like to warmly welcome you to our home here in Kalamaki and wish you all a great regatta and the best possible results. Above all, enjoy the experience," said George Christopoulos, President of the Kalamaki Nautical Club.

Mark Lyttle, President of the ILCA Class, thanked the host club and volunteers for their efforts: "I would like to thank the team at the Kalamaki Nautical Club for their excellent organisation and warm hospitality, as well as the volunteers who have done an outstanding job. Winning races is important, but even more important is winning friends through these competitions".

Racing is scheduled from 10 to 16 June, with a Reserve/Rest Day planned for 13 June.

Further information about the event can be found on the official event website.

We will be following and publishing all the action daily on the ILCA website and social media channels throughout the championship, so stay tuned!
