Day Two of the Cowes Classics Regatta saw the event gather pace, with an expanded racing programme following across the Solent with competitors looking forward to the ever popular Regatta barbecue this evening.

Following yesterday's AP over A competitors were treated to near-perfect racing conditions throughout the day, with south-westerly winds of 12-18 knots, gusting to 20 knots, and beautiful sunshine across the Solent.

With the Regatta beginning in earnest the Solent saw the fleets split across three races courses Daring and Dragons classes on course A, Class One and Class Two Classic and Spirit of Tradition yachts course B and XOD course C, with the Etchells & Mermaids joining the regatta tomorrow. All classes successfully completed three races, with race management teams delivering an efficient programme across all course areas. Tight racing was enjoyed throughout the fleet, and quick turnarounds between races ensured competitors made the most of the excellent conditions on offer.

Tim Hancock, PRO said:

"I was great to get all classes racing on the water and race teams and spectators enjoyed watching the close racing across the various fleets. We were able to run a full schedule of three races for all classes in near perfect sunny Solent conditions. Tomorrow the weather and wind conditions look like they will be challenging once again, so it was good to get some races under our belt for everyone"

Following the day's racing, competitors, owners, sponsors and guests will come together at the clubhouse for the Cowes Classics Regatta Barbecue, for a great evening in the garden.

Thank you to Mermaid Gin for their continued support of the regatta, with their delicious gin enjoyed by all at the welcome drinks at both the pre-regatta supper and tonight's evening's barbecue.

Looking Ahead

Racing continues on Saturday with a busy schedule across the fleets subject to the weather, including three races for all classes as competitors seek to strengthen their positions before the final day of competition.
