Llandegfedd Sailing Club hosted young sailors from across the South Wales area for a competitive day of racing. The LLSC Dragon Series event took place on Saturday 16th May 2026 and gave sailors of all abilities an opportunity to test their skills, with coach support for those new to racing.

A total of 33 boats took to the water on an unseasonably cold day. The wind strength varied from light to a good sailing breeze. Some big shifts made for challenging conditions on occasions.

The event saw five races completed by the General Handicap and Junior Handicap fleets, with four races completed by the Training fleet. Medal positions were taken by competitors from all attending clubs; Llandegfedd, Cardiff Bay, Tata Steel and Mumbles. Well done to all sailors! It was wonderful to see so many clubs attending and so many keen youth and junior sailors.

The full results and pictures from the day can be found on our website: www.llandegfedd.org.uk/youth/dragons

We hope to see all of the young racers again at the Welsh Topper Champs and Onboard Regatta (this year featuring youth ILCAs!) at Llandegfedd on 27th & 28th June: www.llandegfedd.org.uk/youth/welsh-open

A big thank you to all the volunteers from the day. These events could not run without you. A total of 17 fantastic volunteers took on roles such as recording finish times, driving safety boats, mark laying, coaching the training fleet, tallying sailors in and out, and many more roles that happen behind the scenes. What a great team!

The next South Wales Dragon event is on 6th June at Cardiff Bay Yacht Club. Please enter at www.welshsailing.com/dragon-series

Llandegfedd Sailing Club is a friendly, welcoming, volunteer run club based at a beautiful inland reservoir. We run regular junior coaching beginning with our RYA Learn to Sail courses in May. We also have competitive racing twice a week for all ages. LLSC is a recognised RYA Pathway Club.
