The 52 SUPER SERIES, renowned as the world's leading grand prix monohull yacht racing circuit, returns for its 2026 season this week.

Starting Tuesday, May 5th, 14 boats representing 11 nations will converge on the Bay of Palma for the season opener in Puerto Portals, Mallorca. With a record fleet size and three new teams joining the grid, this season promises the most competitive racing in the circuit's 14-year history.

Established in 2012, the 52 SUPER SERIES has grown into the undisputed pinnacle of monohull keelboat racing. It attracts the world's top professional sailors—including Olympic Gold Medalists and America's Cup winners—who compete on high-performance TP52 yachts. Known for "pure" racing where boats are often separated by seconds after an hour of competition, it is the ultimate test of teamwork, strategy, and technical precision.

The 2026 season features a high-stakes mix of defending champions and ambitious newcomers. All eyes are on Sled (USA) and Platoon Aviation (GER); Sled is looking to build on their 2025 consistency with a refined sail program, while the 2023 champions, Platoon Aviation, are desperate to bounce back from what they described as their "worst year in history" with a brand-new keel fin. Gladiator (GBR), winners of last year's opening regatta, are also top contenders with a reconfigured afterguard featuring veteran helm Guillermo Parada.

Among the new entries, the depth of talent is exceptional. No Way Back (NED) enters the fray with a massive advantage, utilising the 2025 championship-winning boat and retaining 75% of the elite American Magic Quantum Racing crew. Sweden's Trinity is perhaps the biggest wildcard, debuting a brand-new, freshly launched boat led by the ultra-calm America's Cup winner Ed Baird. Meanwhile, Brazil's Caballo Loco (the former Phoenix) has already shown impressive speed in training, proving they have the tactical smarts to capitalise on the unpredictable early-season conditions.
