The 2026 HD Sails Scottish Streaker Travellers Series got under way on April 18th at the Clyde Cruising Club venue at Bardowie Loch north of Glasgow, shared with the Solo traveller. This venue is infamous for its gusty and shifty winds so with a forecast of a NW wind of 14 gusting to 24mph it was going to be interesting.

Six visiting boats arrived. The price of fuel and various other problems reducing the turnout. Two boats came from ELYC, James and Paul (with his brand new Hartley), Barney came all the way from Craven SC in Yorkshire, Michael from Loch Ryan SC, Katie from St Mary's SC and David from ASYC having driven up from Derby with his even newer Hartley.

Though the wind was steady on arrival by the time of the first race the forecast was accurate with lulls and big gusts from random directions.

The first race got away after a delay as the Solo's had a general recall. Paul by then had called it a day. Jim lead at the first mark closely followed by Barney and David. Katie then passed David who had some minor teething issues with Michael just behind. There were no further changes and indeed no capsizes in the Streakers.

Race 2 followed a similar pattern though with more extreme gusts. At one point we were almost becalmed at the windward mark watching a Solo pitchpole in a wall of spray not 200 yards away. Jim sailed away from Barney and Katie. The biggest gust of the day then went through. Michael capsized but rapidly recovered whilst David waited for the gust to pass. Jim then went in having secured both wins.

Race 3 was in the strongest wind but without the huge gusts. Barney lead all the way from David then Katie. Dodging capsized Solos was now an added hazzard.

Once ashore the prize-giving gave Jim first prize counting 2 firsts followed by Barney (2,1). The race committee, rescue team and galley all did a great job. The next event is at St Mary's SC on May 16th.
