The second day of racing at French Olympic Week, the second event of the Sailing Grand Slam series, once again brought light wind conditions and closely fought battles on the water. After two races, the leaderboard saw significant changes, with Italian duo Giacomo Ferrari and Alessandra Dubbini moving into the overall lead.
Following the completion of the qualifying series, the top 19 teams have advanced to the Gold Fleet, setting the stage for the next phase of competition.
The Italian pair, silver medallists at the European Championships, delivered a strong performance today, finishing 3rd and 1st across the two races. Their consistency allowed them to climb to the top of the standings.
In second place, British sailors Martin Wrigley and Bettine Harris continue their solid form, maintaining consistency throughout the qualifying series and holding on to their position near the top of the leaderboard.
"Two days of qualifying series, pretty light wind, not easy days, especially in terms of strategy. Sometimes the left side worked, sometimes the right. We managed well and I think we did a good job. Now with this format, everything is still in play, also because we can discard the qualifying score. We are focused on the next days. The weather will probably change, so we need to stay focused and keep going," said Giacomo Ferrari.
Alessandra Dubbini added:
“We enjoyed these two days of light wind racing. It was three quite difficult races, but we managed step by step and finished first in the qualifying. Tomorrow the wind might increase, so it will be a different kind of racing. Today and yesterday were not easy, but we were fast on the water, made good decisions, and now we are focused on the next races.”
Jordi Xammar and Marta Cardona moved up into third place after another strong showing, matching the leaders with a 3rd and 1st place finish. Meanwhile, Elena Berta and Giulio Calabrò dropped to fourth overall.
From tomorrow, the fleet splits into Gold and Silver groups as the competition intensifies in the next stage of racing.
