US Sailors shine in Palma with two Silver Medals and strong top-four finishes

After six days of competition on the Bay of Palma at the 55th Trofeo Princesa Sofía, Nevin Snow and Ian MacDiarmid delivered a standout performance in the 49er class, securing the silver medal. Noah Lyons also claimed silver in the iQFoil class, adding to a strong showing for the US delegation.
Just off the podium, Noah Runciman finished fourth in the Men's Formula Kite, while Charlotte Rose earned a fourth-place result in the ILCA 6. In total, 47 American athletes competed on the world stage in Palma, highlighting the depth and strength of America's sailing talent.
"This event proved to be an excellent test for our sailors, with changing conditions each day demanding adaptability and focus," remarked Molly Vandemoer, Director of Olympic Sailing. "The American team showed up in force, with just under 50 athletes competing across the fleets. Heading into the final day with medal contention in five fleets is an impressive achievement—and a strong of sign of what's to come."
The sun shined bright and the sea breeze blew exactly as per the script for a blockbuster finale to Palma, Mallorca's giant 55 Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels, the curtain raiser to the 2026 Olympic classes season and the first Sailing Grand Slam regatta of the year.
The new format for the dinghy, skiff and multihull classes - on test for the first time - is now more designed to reward supreme consistency, and the two-race Finals produced no shortage of drama and upsets. And still, the 'sudden death, first past the post' format favored by the Kites and iQFOiL windsurfers still saw one long time leader who had accumulated a 'picket fence' of a dozen wins beaten to the Sofía title.
"To place 2nd at this regatta is truly special," said Noah Lyons."I am happy with my result. I am excited to carry this momentum forward into the 2026 season, and to see what other great things I can achieve."
