Kræn Brinck Nielsen speaks out after a resource-intensive period aimed at ensuring a fair rating for the XR 41 going forward. The process has resulted in a solution that everyone can be satisfied with - and the outcome is in fact better than it initially appeared. XR 41 remains a winner.

"With the XR 41, we developed a boat designed to win the ORC Worlds while also being competitive under IRC and other rating systems. The design brief also stated that the boat's stability should make it suitable for shorthanded racing, and that the modular interior quickly converts the boat from a hardcore racer into a comfortable, fully planing family boat. We achieved it all - and the results prove it."

There is great interest in the Sport version, and our marketing effort will focus on it in 2026, as we see strong potential among couples and families looking for fun and sporty sailing.

The XR 41 has won everything it has competed in - including the World Championship - and the modular idea has hit the mark: Sailing families can literally go on holiday in the same boat that secures top international results the following week.

After the 2025 ORC Worlds, the XR 41 was deemed highly dominant, and adjustments were announced. "We did not expect that the results would be challenged or attempts would be made to change the rules. Therefore, we had to defend our position - both for the sake of existing XR 41 owners and the many prospective buyers."

The final quote from the ORC committee means that the XR 41 remains its strong position within ORC. "It has been a tough process and has required a great deal of time. But the principle is important: Racers must be able to trust that the rules are fair and consistent. Not only for the results, but also to secure the value of the boats for years."

"Sailing needs innovation and development. If opportunities exist - obviously within the rules - they should be pursued. I am relieved that we now have a solution everyone can accept, and that the ORC rating for 2026 is set," concludes Kræn Brinck Nielsen.
