Vigo to host the 2027 J/70 Corinthian World Championship

The International J/70 Class Association has awarded the 2027 J/70 Corinthian World Championship to Vigo, Spain. The event will take place from 12 to 19 June 2027, hosted by the Real Club Náutico de Vigo in collaboration with the Spanish J/70 Class Association.
The Championship will bring together the world's top Corinthian teams in one of Europe's most renowned sailing venues. Vigo, located in Galicia on Spain's Atlantic coast, is internationally recognized for its technical race areas, reliable Atlantic wind systems, and long-standing sailing tradition.
Over the past months, the Real Club Náutico de Vigo and the Spanish Class Association have been working intensively on the planning and coordination of the event to ensure it meets the highest sporting and organizational standards of the J/70 Class. The 2027 Corinthian World Championship will combine world-class racing conditions with a solid logistical structure and a welcoming atmosphere for international teams.
Accessibility and logistics
Vigo offers convenient international access through three nearby airports: Porto (Portugal), Vigo, and Santiago de Compostela, all located within approximately one hour by car from the venue. This connectivity provides multiple international flight options for teams travelling from Europe, the Americas, and beyond.
To facilitate smooth arrivals and departures, the Real Club Náutico de Vigo will coordinate official transfer services from the airports to the venue, ensuring efficient transport for teams, equipment, and accompanying staff. Detailed logistical guidance, including shipping information and on-site technical services, will be provided well in advance of the event.
The club's marina infrastructure, technical areas, and support services are being structured to accommodate the international fleet comfortably and efficiently throughout the Championship week.
A strategic commitment to the J/70 Class
The Real Club Náutico de Vigo considers the J/70 class a key pillar in its sporting development strategy. With a growing local fleet and increasing engagement from Spanish and international teams, the club has made a long-term commitment to support and promote the class at both national and international levels.

The Championship will be organized in close coordination with the International J/70 Class Association and the Spanish J/70 Class, ensuring full alignment with class regulations and international expectations.

"On behalf of the J/70 International Class, I am very pleased to confirm that Real Club Náutico de Vigo will host the 2027 Corinthian World Championship. This decision was taken by our World Council, comprised of entirely member representatives from each of the 30 J/70 National Class Associations across the globe.
The International J/70 Class last visited Vigo with the European Championship in 2018, which was a huge success. We recall the epic sailing conditions - an Atlantic race area open enough to generate fast, surfable waves, yet sheltered by islands that also add some tactical shifts. This will provide the perfect test to deliver a World Champion from what we expect will be over 100 talented Corinthian J/70 teams from around the world. We also remember the wonderful Galician hospitality; we look forward to an amazing social occasion and celebration of the international J/70 community.
For more than a decade, the J/70 Class has enjoyed consistently over-subscribed World Championships, with fleets in excess of 100 boats. This has been fuelled by the continuous and steady growth of the Class, which now numbers nearly 2,000 boats across 30 countries. With demand continuing to outstrip supply, it was a natural step, in 2024, to expand the World Championship programme. The J/70 Class now delivers three World Championships each year - the Open, the Corinthian and the Mixed Plus (which promotes female participation). Each is equally prized and together they serve our diverse, international and growing membership.
Only the J/70 can do this."
