The final day of the Sun Hung Kai & Co. Hong Kong Race Week 2026 saw the 29er fleet battle for victory in challenging but ultimately rewarding conditions. Early morning delays tested patience as cold, rainy weather and unstable breezes forced the Race Committee to search for viable wind conditions.
Eventually, near Beaufort Channel, three quality races were completed in 8-12 kts of breeze under beautiful sunshine, providing a fitting conclusion to the regatta. Race Officer Dave Norton reflected:
"Our patience paid off. By 11:30, we had a nice, stable breeze, and the boats were launched. Tight racing and some sailors pushing a little too hard led to three UFDs in Race 10, but the fleet put on a fantastic show."
29er Asian Championship Results
The 29er event incorporated the fourth edition of the 29er Asian Championship. Hong Kong sailors Ethan Kiu & Louis Polson continued their dominant campaign, securing overall victory. Nicholas Hon & Kaden Chan took second place, while the all-girls team Chloe Kong & McCarley Wong claimed third and the Asian 29er Female Championship title.
Overall Podium - 29er Asian Championship:
- Gold: Ethan Kiu & Louis Polson (HKG)
- Silver: Nicholas Hon & Kaden Chan (HKG)
- Bronze / Female Champions: Chloe Kong & McCarley Wong (HKG)
Junior Podium:
- Gold: Ethan Kiu & Louis Polson (HKG)
- Silver: Nicholas Hon & Kaden Chan (HKG)
- Bronze: Jessica Liu & Leanna Lee (HKG)
The first overseas team was Atlas Miller & Rory Spinaze Littlejohn (AUS). This regatta was also the first selection event for Hong Kong for the Asian Sailing Games to be held in Japan from September 19th. Competitors from Australia, Singapore, and a strong local fleet contributed to a total of 24 entries in the 29er class.

Event Highlights
Hong Kong Race Week 2026 featured 276 entries, comprising 306 sailors from 12 countries and regions, confirming the event as one of the premier international youth dinghy regattas. Principal Race Officer Barry Truhol said:
"What a fantastic way to end a very successful regatta. We had two amazing opening days, a quieter third day, and today was the perfect conclusion to a strong event."
Adrian Pang, Commodore of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club and co-organiser of the event, expressed gratitude to the over 100 volunteers whose dedication made the regatta possible. Race Chairperson Lucy Sutro added:
"To all our sailors: you should be proud. Whether you leave with medals or memories, you've grown as athletes and contributed to the spirit that makes Hong Kong Race Week so special."
The 29er competition demonstrated tight racing, skillful teams, and emerging talent, including strong performances by female sailors and junior competitors, further highlighting the strength of the 29er fleet in Hong Kong and the region.
Congratulations to all competitors, coaches, and volunteers for a week of excellent racing. The event continues to position itself as a must-do regatta on the international youth dinghy scene.
