The final day of the Youth Portugal Grand Prix concluded today in Vilamoura, bringing three days of competitive and inspiring sailing to a close. A total of 52 young sailors from several countries took part in this early-season event, marking a strong start on the road to the Youth Sailing World Championships 2025, which will also be hosted in Vilamoura this December.
This Youth Portugal Grand Prix served not only as valuable preparation for the upcoming World Championships but also as a clear demonstration of the promising future emerging from Vilamoura's expanding youth sailing ecosystem. Over recent years, Vilamoura Sailing has been developing a dedicated Youth Hub, a long-term project focused on training, nurturing, and empowering the next generation of elite sailors. A space where discipline meets ambition, and where the future legends of sailing are beginning to take shape — the future of sailing begins here.
Over the three days of racing, the fleet enjoyed consistently favourable conditions. The opening day delivered a steady northeasterly breeze of 10-15 knots, setting an excellent start to the event. Day two brought near-ideal racing conditions, with 18-20 knots from the west, offering both speed and tactical challenges. For the final day, sailors were met with lighter winds, yet still stable enough to complete the scheduled racing. Altogether, it was a perfect three-day window that showcased Vilamoura at its best and provided an exceptional platform for youth competition.
Four classes took to the water: ILCA 4, ILCA 6, 420, and 29er, each delivering tight battles and impressive performances throughout these days.
With this successful championship now concluded, the focus shifts towards the Youth Sailing World Championships 2025, with the Opening Ceremony on 13 December, the Practice Race on 14 December, and the official races starting on 15 December, where these rising talents will once again take centre stage—many of them stronger, faster, and more prepared thanks to the experience gained over the last days in Vilamoura.
