2025 Melges 24 North American Sailing Series nears conclusion with astonishingly tight standings

by International Melges 24 Class Association 5 Dec 2025 16:01 GMT

The 2025 North American Sailing Series (NASS) has boasted a highly competitive season spanning nearly ten events, beginning with the season opener in St. Petersburg, which also served as the class's Midwinter Championship, and carrying through an action-packed year of racing across the continent.

With nine of ten events now complete, the standings are astonishingly tight — so tight, in fact, that the overall title will ultimately be decided at the forthcoming 2025 North American Championship (NAC), held during Bacardi Winter Series No. 1 on January 23-25, 2026, in Miami.

At the top of the ranking is Peter McClennen's Gamecock, the current series leader after an exceptionally consistent season thus far. McClennen has competed in six of the nine NASS-designated events and surged into the lead following a standout performance at the U.S. National Championship, where he finished 6th overall.

Just one point back in second place is Geoff Fargo aboard Sentinel. Fargo has been locked in a season-long duel with both McClennen and Steve Boho at the helm of The 300, a three-way battle that has defined much of the 2025 North American Sailing Series. Boho has been a dominant presence throughout the year and now sits third overall, tied on points with Fargo but behind on countback.

The scoring system for the NASS compiles each team's best four results from the season, meaning both consistency and participation play crucial roles. With only a single point separating first and second place, and equal points for second and third, the race for the overall title remains wide open.

The depth of the fleet is equally impressive. The next group of teams: Dan Berezin racing Surprise, Scot Zimmerman on Bad Idea, John Shockey at the helm of Wombmates Racing, Jaime Torres' Smile and Wave, and John Poulson on Longshot are all Corinthian teams, or have raced Corinthian at various points this season. Their strong performances across multiple events (especially for Berezin and Torres, who have competed in seven regattas each) underscore the strength and commitment of the Corinthian North American fleet.

Rounding out the top ten are the newly crowned 2025 U.S. National Champion Cuyler Morris on Dark Horse and Marty Kullman aboard New Wave, each adding further intensity to an already stacked leaderboard.

With such razor-thin margins, the NAC in Miami becomes the decisive battleground. Only after the final race on Biscayne Bay will the 2025 North American Sailing Series Champion be determined — and given how tight the standings are, it promises to be a thrilling conclusion to an unforgettable season.
