J/24 US National Championship at Florida Yacht Club

by Julie & Christopher Howell 24 Nov 2025 18:57 GMT 19-23 November 2025

Forty J/24 teams from across the continent gathered November 21-23 for the 2025 J/24 US National Championship, an event defined by patience, persistence and tactical mastery in unusually light and challenging conditions.

Racing was scheduled to begin Friday, but a complete absence of wind kept the fleet ashore. Saturday delivered shifty, inconsistent breeze that allowed the Race Committee to complete three races, with a fourth race abandoned as conditions deteriorated. On Sunday, the Race Committee once again attempted to get racing under way, but the wind never materialized, solidifying Saturday's results as final. Despite the limited racing, competition was fierce, and several teams put on exceptional performances. In the end, local Tremendous Slouch led by Paul Abdullah took the title!

Overall Results: (top five)

  1. Tremendous Slouch - Paul Abdullah, Ian Hunter, Tucker Gilliam, Jeff Hayden & Max Vinocur
  2. Lifted - Evan Petley-Jones, Ben Maloney, Emily Merry, Savannah Taylor & Matt Soosalu

The 2025 Championship showcased the resilience and camaraderie of the J/24 Class, with sailors navigating the curveballs of a wind-challenged weekend while maintaining strong camaraderie. Thank you to Chip Till, the Race Committee, Vakaros RaceSense and host FYC who rolled out the red carpet. The Club welcomes sailors back March 13-15 for the 2026 J/24 Midwinter Championship.
