World Sailing has been shortlisted for an IOC Climate Action Award 2025 in recognition of its efforts to drive sustainability in sport.

The IOC Climate Action Awards 2025 celebrate impactful initiatives that address climate change across the Olympic Movement. Fifteen finalists were selected across three categories: Athletes, National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and International Federations (IFs).

The awards recognise and reward initiatives that deliver measurable impact in reducing the environmental impact of sport while inspiring and educating others to take meaningful climate action.

World Sailing has been shortlisted in the International Federation category for its collaboration with the Oria Marine Support Fleet Project which addressed the emissions from on-water support vessels at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games by tracking fuel consumption, emissions and efficiency. The system was comprehensively deployed at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, identifying a potential for 20% reduction in emissions through fleet management, eco-piloting training and equipment efficiency measures. The project and wider deployment will create the 'blueprint' for future sailing events and Games.

Alexandra Rickham, World Sailing's Head of Sustainability, said, "We are deeply honoured to be shortlisted for the IOC Climate Action Awards 2025. This recognition underscores that the strategic changes and plans we have implemented are successfully achieving the goals we set out in our Sustainability Agenda 2030. The safety of sailors and the vitality of coastal communities are uniquely tied to the health of our planet, giving us a clear duty to minimise our sport's environmental impact.

"By implementing simple measures and viable alternatives within World Sailing and at our events, we aim to set a positive example for others to follow. We are committed to embracing new technology and leading the transition toward a more environmentally conscious sport.

"We are very proud of the real, measurable impact we have achieved in partnership with our stakeholders, which has inspired the sailing community. Sailing is uniquely placed to observe changes in climate and sea conditions, making it our ongoing duty to lead and support a cleaner sport wherever possible."

Launched in 2022 by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the awards aim to support National Olympic Committees, International Federations, and athletes in their efforts to manage carbon emissions and understand their impact on the environment.

The 2025 winners will be announced in the run up to the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.

World Sailing was shortlisted for two IOC Climate Action Awards in 2023 in the Climate Action x Sustainable Travel and in the Climate Action x Innovation categories.
