Albury Wodonga Sailing Club in southern NSW hosted their Sail Country Regatta over the weekend of 1-2 November. Part of which was the NSWPTCA State Titles which was being held at the venue for the very first time.
Just as was the case for the recent Paper Tiger Internationals at Lake Cootharaba in SE Qld, light winds prevailed for the small but competitive fleet. Just four races were completed out of a scheduled eight.
The victory went to class legend and grand master, Garry Williams from Wagga Wagga Sailing Club. This was his 23rd NSW State Title since his first way back in 1980. Runner up was Garry's son Greg, also from Wagga Wagga and a champion skipper in his own right. He was defending his 12th NSW title achieved a year earlier at Port Kembla.
Special mention goes to 6th placegetter, Brett Holly and son of Ian Holly, the much missed and highly regarded NSW champion from 1986.
The Holly's home club, Toukley Sailing Club will host the 55th Australian Nationals Title over the new year period 2-6 January 2026 in just a couple of months. The venue being Tuggerah Lake on the NSW central coast and for third time. The two previous visits to the NSW central coast venue at Tuggerah Lake for nationals, 1984 and 1986 respectively saw Garry Williams capture both series.
