The Inclusive 2.4mR World Championship 2025 officially began today in the waters of Lake Garda, hosted by Fraglia Vela Malcesine.
The 56 athletes representing 17 nations faced the first day of racing with an Ora breeze that started off gently but strengthened throughout the afternoon, allowing three races to be completed under a stunning sunset and an increasingly golden evening light.
A line-up of top names in the class made for a competitive and high-level opening day, though the championship standings remain wide open.
As Megan Pascoe, currently third overall, remarked: "You can't win a World Championship on the first day, but you can definitely lose it!"
The day opened with a visit from a group of special spectators, accompanied by Azienda ULSS 9 Scaligera, who had the chance to experience firsthand the inclusive spirit of the event. The guests joined the fleet's first start on board the Siora Veronica, getting a close-up view of the world of sailing and the welcoming soul of this Championship. It was a particularly moving and meaningful moment for everyone present.
At the end of the first day, USA 160 Jeffrey Linton leads the provisional ranking with a series of 1-4-2, followed by NOR 128 Mikael Stuen Bekkevold in second and GBR 173 Megan Pascoe in third.
The day concluded with an aperitif at Fraglia Vela Malcesine, hosted at the B'LAC Bar & Bistrò and accompanied by beer kindly offered by Birrerie Stiegl.
Tomorrow's program foresees the first start at 1:00 p.m.
