The RS200 Youth National Championship took place on 27/28th September at Exe Sailing Club, and it was a truly brilliant event from start to finish. With a warm welcome, slick organisation, and top-tier race management, Exe SC proved once again why it's such a popular venue for youth racing.

Saturday saw classic Exe conditions, with a strong breeze and a big swell rolling in from the south. Combined with powerful tides, it made for a physically and tactically demanding time on the water. Despite the tricky conditions, the race team kept things safe and well-managed, getting the best out of what was a challenging day.

Sunday brought lighter winds from the north and bright sunshine - a little calmer, but no less competitive. The race officer and their team did a fantastic job to get four races away back-to-back, making the most of the improved conditions. The racing was tight, and the quality across the fleet was impressive.

After six races, it was Ben Whaley and Isobel Stewart who came out on top, taking 1st overall with a strong, consistent performance across both days. In 2nd overall, and also crowned RS200 Youth National Champions, were Henry and Rose Hallam, who showed real composure and tactical awareness throughout. Joe and Clara Jones took 3rd overall and 2nd youth, with Gabriella Burlton and Noa Moskovitch finishing as 3rd youth.

A special mention goes to Roman Archer and Harry Scrogie, who took home the first junior boat prize, showing great promise for the future. Rosie Robertson was awarded first female helm, a well-deserved recognition of her consistent and confident sailing over the weekend.

A huge thank you must go to Exe Sailing Club - not just for hosting the event, but for going above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome. From the volunteers on shore to the race team on the water, everything ran smoothly, with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere that made the weekend even more enjoyable. The tea and cakes waiting for sailors as they came off the water were legendary - a small touch that made a big difference after some tough racing.

Thanks also to Noble Marine for sponsoring the Youth Championships; the vouchers were very well received, and it certainly inspired the sailors to have the Nationals' sponsor also sponsoring the Youth Champs.

With top-quality racing, great organisation, and a real sense of community, the 2025 RS200 Youth Nationals was a fantastic event. A big well done to all the sailors - and roll on next year!
