RHKYC China Coast Regatta 2025

by Guy Nowell, Asia Editor, Sail-World.com 6 Oct 2025 06:04 BST 10-12 September 2025

How time flies. Only yesterday we were going afloat for the 2024 edition of the China Coast Regatta, RHKYC's premier big boat event of the year. And now here we are again, with only four days to go before the 2025 event.

This marks the 33rd edition of the regatta which was established in 1993, under the guiding hands of Neil Pryde and Steve Ellis. The event is based out of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club’s Middle Island clubhouse; with sailors competing in a variety of windward/leeward and geometric and island courses. IRC racing takes place over three days with the PHS division joining for the weekend. Competing yachts can expect the best of Hong Kong’s sailing conditions; excellent breeze, blue skies, warm friendly waters and great parties. If 15 to 20 knots of northeasterly breeze in shorts and t-shirt weather is your sort of sailing, watch this space!

Today the entry list stands at 34 boats, including three TP52s, five Cape 31s and a revival of the perennial Whiskey Jack / Dexter / Juice bunfight which has been going on forever. Furthermore, IRC yachts racing in China Coast Regatta may form teams in order to compete in the Hong Kong Kettle. Teams shall consist of two boats from different divisions, and the team with the lowest combined score at the end of the regatta wins the Hong Kong Kettle. Forecast is for force 3-4 breeze from the east and southeast, and sunshine. Keep your fingers crossed!
