The high-pressure system over the Northern Adriatic, and particularly the Gulf of Trieste, left no chance for the 2025 Melges 24 World Championship today, as Day 4 ended without racing.

The decision, taken by PRO Giancarlo Crevatin around 4:00 PM, leaves the total number of races sailed at three. The final outcome, and any possible ranking combinations, are now postponed to the fifth and final day, which will conclude with the awards ceremony crowning the twenty-sixth World Champion of this unrivalled one-design class.

This will be the case even if tomorrow also brings no racing. Following a constructive discussion this morning, the International Melges 24 Class Association board voted by majority to approve a proposal from the Race Committee and the International Jury to reduce the number of races required to award the World title from five to three.

Heading into the final day, both sailors and volunteers have turned their focus to weather forecasts on websites and apps. Although the outlook remains complex, conditions tomorrow morning appear more promising.

At the moment, Geoff Fargo's Sentinel (USA) leads the standings, tied with Michele Paoletti's Strambapapà (ITA). Just one point behind them is Cuyler Morris's Dark Horse (USA), chased closely by Peter McClennen's Gamecock (USA) with Jeremy Wilmot on tactics. As Wilmot noted, "The World Championship starts tomorrow, and everything could be decided in a single day: it's best to be ready."

In the Corinthian division, the two-time World Champions Mataran 24 (CRO, Ante Botica / Ivo Matic) continue to lead, currently seventh overall. They are one place ahead of Zhik Race Team (GBR, Geoff Carveth / Miles Quinton), while Antonio Masoli's Vertigo (ITA) sits in third among the Corinthians, ranked thirteenth overall.

The only chance to get some races in is with an early start scheduled for Saturday morning at 8:15 am.

Racing can be followed live: streaming coverage is available on the social media channels of Yacht Club Adriaco and the International Melges 24 Class Association, with commentary by journalist Andrea Falcon and technical input from Mauro Melandri. Meta Sail live tracking will also be available.

The 2025 Melges 24 World Championship, organized by Yacht Club Adriaco in collaboration with the International Melges 24 Class Association and with the support of the Italian Melges 24 Class, is made possible thanks to the support of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Municipality of Trieste, Zaccanti, Richardson, Urban Hotel Design, Sirio Outfitting, Ocean Marine, Eataly, Gill, Cantina Produttori Cormons, Saiph, Impact Sportbusiness, and RAI.
