12 boats raced in 18 knots over 12 races two days before the DF95 National Championships at the same north Kent venue. C rigs ruled the day. The fleet seems to have conspired to give Adrian Tomlison a false sense of security for the Nationals by letting him win all but race 10, where Dave Adams got an accidental 'Dave shift' to cross first.
2nd places were equally spread between Dave, Mike Brand and visitor Paul Plested with 3 each. Rob Maunder, with a B rig, Vernon Appleton and Tim Long, arriving late from Abersoch via Swanley to join the party, posted one 2nd place each. Again traditional strong starter Mike Brand, having given Adrian a lift from Broadstairs, kept him honest round the track and looked good for 2nd overall before succumbing to the conditions in race 10 after adding three 3rds to his three 2nds.
Tim Long also plugged in three 3rds, 2 in the last 2 races. Paul Plested's two thirds kept him in the frame. The last two podium spots, one 3rd each were taken by Vernon Appleton ahead of his earlier 2nd, and Peter Jackson with a solitary podium place in race one then nothing above 4th. Alan Hounsel managed a 4th before having to leave for a doctor's appointment. By race 9 only 9 boats remained and Dave Adams along with Paul Plested had taken up the chase from Mike Brand.
Paul's 5th in the last race from Dave's 2nd decided 2nd spot overall behind Adrian, taken by Dave by 2 points. Tim was another 3 points back in 4th, 2 ahead of Vernon. The forecast for the s weekend is light airs, so little indication of Nationals places could be inferred.
Overall Summer Series results from 10 events were 1st Dave Adams. 2nd Maike Brand, 3rd Adrian Tomlinson, 4th Alan Hounsell, 5th Peter Jackson, 6th Rob Owens.
