Saturday morning's strong wind forecast was sufficiently close to the actual conditions that racing was cancelled. As it was there were no Redwings and only one One-Design wanting to race so No 7 (Charles Abel Smith) went for a sail instead.

Sunday morning's forecast was considerably nicer for racing (sunny N/NE F4) so it was very disappointing that there were no Redwings again and only two One-Designs; No 8 was Alexander Ross sailing single handed and No 10 helmed by Mark Hodgkinson with Charlie the Boatman's partner Charlotte crewing. Her first time in a One-Design!

Starting off Pepe with Nainby as the first windward mark, neither exactly 'hit the line' at the start, but Alexander on port was sufficiently far ahead by the time they rounded the first mark that it was hardly a race any more so it was finished back at Pepe with No 8 four minutes ahead. With both deciding to go for a port tack start for the second race, they crossed the line close together, albeit with No 8 just ahead.

However, that was as close as they got! Alexander's experience of keeping a One-Design going in an easterly swell put No 8 well ahead again by the time they reached Nainby. Returning to Pepe where the race was shortened, Alexander crossed the line a similar distance ahead to the first race. The offer of a third race was declined!

Next weekend is the last one of the 2025 keelboat season so hopefully the weather will be kind and there will be a reasonable number of boats racing. The following weekend sees the start of the 2025-2026 Illusion Season!

A few of the boats needed de-icing early on Saturday morning After some very windy weather over Christmas and the wrong tides over New Year, it was champagne (albeit cold champagne) conditions over the weekend for the oldest Illusion trophy in the programme - the Ice Breaker! Bembridge Illusion Flying Dutchman Trophy
Sadly again no sign of the 'Flying Dutchman' (Rudi) to challenge for 'his' trophy! Another year flies past and sadly again no sign of the 'Flying Dutchman' (Rudi) to challenge for 'his' trophy! With so many people enjoying family time it was not perhaps surprising that there were initially only eleven boats on the start line. Posted on 24 Dec 2025
Bembridge Illusion Christmas Cracker 2025
Can it really be Christmas Day in three days time? With a good forecast at last, it was a bit disappointing that there were only thirteen takers for the first day of this year's Christmas Cracker, however its still double figure one-design racing in the middle winter! Posted on 22 Dec 2025
Bembridge Illusion Picnic Hamper
Nothing like the benign conditions last year! The weather gods were again not very kind for this weekend's Illusion racing which was for the annual Picnic Hamper. Last year, there were 26 boats enjoying the relatively benign conditions. Posted on 8 Dec 2025
Bembridge Illusion Late November Fleet Racing
After the planned Team Racing is cancelled due to the high winds A forecast of strong winds over the weekend put paid to the planned Team Racing. In the event, it was spot on for Saturday but team racing on Sunday would have undoubtedly been possible, however setting everything up for one day was simply not practical. Posted on 24 Nov 2025

Bembridge Illusion Bill's Barrel
Breezy conditions for the 19 enthusiastic sailors A bit earlier in the new season than normal, Bill's Barrel saw no Bill and no barrel on Saturday! Bembridge Illusion Trafalgar Trophy 2025
A possible record of 23 entries for the first event of the season After last weekend's strong winds linked to Storm Amy, it was quite a relief that this weekend conditions were considerably more friendly - especially as there were twenty-three entries on Saturday - possibly a record for the first Regatta of the season. Bembridge Illusion season begins
Storm Amy put paid to this year's Invitational day Storm Amy's 40kt gusts meant no sailing on Saturday, so it was on a calmer Sunday morning that the Illusions started their new season. Just five boats which was a bit disappointing but understandable given the weekend forecast. Posted on 7 Oct 2025
