Ibiza JoySail Day 3: Inshore racing classic

The third day of Ibiza JoySail delivered an inshore classic, with an open course that tested the yachts at every angle.

With such a expansive racecourse in the waters around Ibiza and Formentera at their disposal, the Race Committee was able to take advantage of the best conditions yet and lay another style of course, ensuring that every day has provided different racing conditions for the 22 superyachts gathered at Marina Ibiza.

The day's results show how close the competition is across the fleet, both in the Corinthian and professionally crewed entries. Across five classes, it is hard to pinpoint clear leaders, so there is all to play for on the final day of racing tomorrow.

In the Performance class Jasi, with Simon Fisher as navigator and Klabbe Nylöff as tactician, continues to snap at the heels of the reigning Ibiza JoySail champion, Moat. With only a three-point lead Moat will need to ensure a faultless race on tomorrow's final day to lift the event trophy for the fifth year in succession.

In the Performance Cruising L class, Corinthian entry Kiboko 4 won today's 14nm course, which brings them within touching distance of the class win. However, Liberty Squared, with Bouwe Bekking calling tactics and Alicia Ageno as navigator, will be sure to cover Kiboko 4 in tomorrow's final race, especially as they start ahead of their Southern Wind sistership in the start sequence.

In the Performance Cruising XL class, the racing is even closer, with three different winners on each day of racing. Spiip sits with a one-point advantage over L'Hippocampe, but a win from the bigger Swan tomorrow could upset the rankings.

However, should the third placed Spirit Yachts 111 Geist, with Graham Sunderland calling tactics and Simon Schofield as navigator, win tomorrow then the class' leaderboard will make interesting reading.

In the elegant World Cruising class, where all the yachts are sailing as Corinthian entries, Nostromo, who have been joined by the legendary Thomas Lundqvist for this weekend's racing, today scored a second win of the event, and continue to lead the class by one point. However, the Dystra 111 Aurelius could upset the standings, especially as they are ahead of the Dubois 100 in tomorrow's start sequence.

There is all to play for on tomorrow's final day of racing.
