Switch Global Championships at Fraglia Vela Malcesine - Day 2

by Fraglia Vela Malcesine 13 Sep 14:32 BST 11-14 September 2025

Another 3 races were completed on the second day of competition at Fraglia Vela Malcesine for the Switch Global Championships. The typical afternoon breeze of Lake Garda blew up to 15 knots, making the racing increasingly spectacular.

In the men's division, Italy's Max Antoniazzi extended his lead at the top of the overall rankings, closely followed — just two points behind — by Germany's Julian Hoffman. Finley Dickinson and Mattia Cesana are tied and currently sharing the third step of the podium. The battle for both the win and the podium spots remains wide open, with more than 10 athletes separated by just a few points. After eight races, another discard will come into play, adding even more unpredictability.

In the women's division, Maltese sisters Victoria and Antonia Schulteis are dominating the leaderboard, taking turns in the top spot throughout the day. Sweden's Wilma Bobock, silver medallist in the 49er class at the last Olympics, has now moved into podium position.

A fierce showdown is also under way in the Masters division, with two sailing legends — Checco Bruni and Simon Hiscocks — going head-to-head, showing they can still challenge the younger generation with top-level performances.

A highlight of the day was the large crowd of spectators gathered in the natural "stadium" of Fraglia Vela Malcesine, thrilled by the close-up action of the 60-boat fleet.

Three more afternoon races are scheduled for Day 3, with the first start expected at 2:00 p.m.
