Alessandro José Tomasi triumphs at the RRD One Hour Wingfoil 2025 at Circolo Surf Torbole

by Elena Giolai 1 Sep 2025 09:35 BST

A perfect day, with sunshine and a steady 15-knot southerly wind, set the stage for the 2025 edition of the RRD One Hour Wingfoil, organized by Circolo Surf Torbole under the aegis of the Italian Sailing Federation. Forty riders of all ages (from as young as 11 up to the Grand Masters) battled for one hour between the marks positioned beneath the Ponale cliffs and off Torbole's Conca d'Oro, creating a breathtaking, silent and lightning-fast spectacle on the waters of Lake Garda.

As expected, victory went to the local champion Alessandro José Tomasi (Fraglia Vela Riva), who dominated the race by completing 20 legs in 1h 06'45". A display of power and consistency that once again confirmed his role as a benchmark in the discipline. Just seconds before the hour expired, Tomasi had already rounded the finish mark, forcing him to continue for two additional legs - further proof of his overwhelming superiority.

Behind him, strong performances came from the Zorzi brothers of Fraglia Vela Malcesine: Sebastiano, second overall, also won the Under 20 category with 17 legs in 1h 32", while Riccardo claimed third place, just a few seconds adrift. Andrea Cucciniello (YC Gaeta) rounded out the Under 20 podium.

Among the women, overall victory went to Marta Monge (CN Diano Marina), while in the Women's Under 20category, Ester Biaggi (Assonautica Tarquinia Maffei) took the win ahead of Eleonora Tiano (LNI Cagliari) and Lucilla Bondi (CS Tre Ponti Livorno).

In the Masters division, the win went to Alberto Cocchi (Windsurfing Club Livorno), while Marco Rebeggiani (Chia Wind Club) topped the Grand Master category with an impressive seventh place overall.

Particularly noteworthy was the participation of many youngsters - some as young as 11-12 years old - who successfully completed the entire race with remarkable determination. This underlined how wingfoil is truly the sport of the new generations, attracting both boys and girls who find in it the perfect blend of adrenaline, skill and fun.

The success of Tomasi, who will leave tomorrow for China to compete in a stage of the Wingfoil Racing World Cup, shines as an inspiration for these young athletes: a role model capable of combining talent, dedication and results, showing the path to those now taking their first steps in competitive wingfoiling.

Circolo Surf Torbole, which has been investing for two years in building a dedicated wingfoil racing team, is today one of the few Italian clubs developing this discipline in a structured way - a sport that could also become Olympic in the near future. The RRD One Hour Wingfoil has once again confirmed Garda Trentino as one of the world's most important arenas for the growth of wind and water sports.

During the prize-giving ceremony, an exciting announcement was made: in 2026 Torbole will host the first RRD One Hour Week, four days fully dedicated to the toughest endurance races on the international scene, each lasting one full hour - double the time of the famous and crowded Defi Wing (around 30 minutes). The 2026 challenge will bring together windsurf fin, windfoil and wingfoil disciplines, with side events designed for athletes and enthusiasts alike.

A project that looks to the future, aiming to highlight the young protagonists of today, destined to become the tourists and ambassadors of the Garda Trentino territory of tomorrow - through the winning mix of sport, nature and emotion.
