Pathway to TATULA Ownership

DAIWAs versatile 2025 TATULA X TW 100 baitcaster offers legacy TATULA performance at a price thats right for the times

Weve talked about trickledown technology before. But given recent revelations in the TATULA assortment, a refresher is in order...

In DAIWA-speak, trickledown technology means sharing features and innovations with less expensive models that were once reserved for the upper crust. Through manufacturing efficiencies, these elements trickle down to less expensive models, the top-shelf models taking on novel design advancements and characteristics that didnt exist before inventions. But thats not to say the established technologies are now obsolete. In fact, quite the opposite. Now theyre now just more affordable...

Consider the new 2025 TATULA X TW 100, the least expensive model in the TATULA reel family. It maintains the series key genetic building blocks and is priced with a sharpened pencil. Its a pretty special baitcaster at its price really, any price, said DAIWA Field Marketing Manager, Chris Martin.

The centerpiece of the new TATULA X TW 100 is DAIWAs storied HYPERDRIVE System, previously found on only more expensive models. Our HYPERDRIVE System is a suite of advanced technologies that enhance overall performance, durability, and smoothness, said Martin. It starts with our HYPER Armed Housing a durable, lightweight, precision tooled, and corrosion-resistant aluminium frame and sideplates that provide a forcefield for our famous HYPDERDRIVE DIGIGEAR.

HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR grants a three point interaction between the pinion and drive gear to provide continuous gear contact, spread the load to eliminate chatter, and extend the life of the reel. Besides the TATULA X TW 100, three-point gear contacts are otherwise unheard of at this price.

The new TATULA X TW 100 also features DAIWAs iconic and patented T-Wing System (TWS), which was introduced over two decades ago and remains the industry benchmark, never bested. The T-Wing mechanism lets line flow freely on both the cast and retrieve, said Martin. Its very cool to now offer T-Wing at such a comfortable price.

A jack-of-all-trades and master-of-them-all, Martin says the TATULA X TW 100 is an adaptable, general purpose baitcasting reel. It can be used for everything from shallow cranking and bladebaits to topwaters and pitching jigs. And DAIWA offers the reel in three gear ratios, too, so you can drill down into lure groups and techniques.

Martin suggests the lower 6.3:1 gear ratio for shallow running crankbaits, squarebills, Texas-rigs, and other soft plastics. He says the 7.1:1 midrange, multipurpose gearing is good for ChatterBaits, swimbaits, and topwaters. And Martin endorses the higher speed 8.1:1 gearing for surface frogs, buzzbaits, swimbaits, punching, and other techniques that require a fast intake of line.

Martin closed by saying, At a time when you stare into the shopping cart and question what you get for your money, inside one small box, the new TATULA X TW 100 promises your moneys worth.

HYPERDRIVE ARMED HOUSING and SIDEPLATES

A distortion-proof aluminum frame that securely encases the gear unit within the reel body. This robust housing ensures the gears remain precisely aligned, enhancing the reel's performance, durability, and longevity under stress.

HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR

An advanced DAIWA technology that makes gear teeth more efficient at transferring power from the handle to the spool, resulting in a smoother, more powerful gear set that also reduces gear noise. The gears are also strengthened by larger teeth in the traction wheel. HYPERDRIVE DIGIGEAR also features three points of contact most gearing has only two which maintains constant contact between the gear teeth, resulting in a smoother operation, improved cranking power, and longer gear life.

HYPERDRIVE TOUGH CLUTCH

DAIWAs redeveloped and reinforced clutch mechanism is engineered to be more durable, stronger, and more reliable than previous versions, ensuring consistent performance even under heavy use or harsh conditions, such as saltwater fishing. It provides a crisp and satisfying engagement with an audible click and is designed to withstand thousands of casts without failure.

T-WING SYSTEM (TWS)

DAIWAs innovative T shaped mechanical aperture that the line passes through when casting and retrieving allows the line to flow freely, reducing friction and sharp angles that slow line flow. When the clutch is disengaged for casting, TWS pivots to a wide, open position, allowing line to spool off with minimal friction to reduce backlashes and enable longer, more accurate casts. During retrieval, TWS pivots back to a narrower position, guiding the line evenly onto the spool to prevent tangling and ensure consistent packing for subsequent casts.

ZERO ADJUSTER

The spool tension knob comes ideally preset at the factory to match the model and reduce backlash when casting into the wind, skipping baits, or with lighter lures. However, anglers can fine tune the spool tension to their personal preferences.

LC (Long Cast) Concept

DAIWAs LC Concept focuses on enhancing casting distance through a specialized spool design, reduced friction, and optimized braking. The casting system prioritizes lightweight construction, large spool diameters, and specific spool geometries to maximize casting efficiency, especially during the final stages of the cast, and is engineered for use with midsized to large lures.

ULTIMATE TOURNAMENT DRAG (UTD)

An advanced drag system designed to provide smooth, consistent, and powerful drag performance. UTD employs a super high-density woven carbon drag washer system impregnated with specially designed grease. This results in minimal startup inertia, smooth drag efficiency, and reduced risk of line breakage or hook pull during sudden strikes. UTD allows for setting higher drag pressures without compromising smoothness or risking line failure.

MAGFORCE Z

A dynamic braking system, which uses a movable inductor rotor that adjusts its position relative to the magnetic field based on spool speed. At high spool speeds (e.g., during the initial cast), the rotor moves closer to the magnets, increasing the brake force to prevent overrun and backlash. As the spool slows, the rotor retracts, reducing brake force for longer casts. The spool features straight walls, allowing higher line capacity for heavier lines and bigger baits.

100mm SWEPT HANDLE

Designed to enhance cranking power, comfort, and aesthetics, DAIWAs signature curved handle shape improves ergonomics, providing better leverage and a more comfortable grip compared to standard straight handles.

THE PERFECT PAIRING

Pretty easy picking a rod when it shares the same spidery TATULA mark. And it makes financial sense when they share the same $149.99 retail price. Yes, that would be DAIWAs TATULA Bass Rod series. The 28 model series include 18 technique-specific baitcasters, simplifying the selection process.

The noticeably lightweight TATULA Bass Rods sport a cork split-grip for control and casting power, while the exposed blank section supplies sensitivity. The rods premier Fuji K-Series guides are constructed of Fazlite a new guide material with excellent hardness, conductivity, and bend strength. The blank is designed with DAIWAs X45 with Bias Wrap Construction, which radically improves rod strength and durability by eliminating twist and preventing the blank from losing its round form. The elimination of this twist allows for a lighter, stronger, more powerful, and sensitive rod.
