Few regattas in the world can claim a destination as alluring as their racing. The annual Camden Classics Cup, presented by Lyman-Morse, delivers this in abundance.
Against the postcard-perfect backdrop of Camden Harbor, where schooners and classic yawls share the water and Mount Battie stands as a quiet sentinel, the 9th annual event once again celebrated the camaraderie and spirit of classic yachting.
Eighty exquisite yachts gathered for the regatta, their gleaming brightwork and graceful profiles paying tribute to timeless craftsmanship. Along The Wharf at Lyman-Morse, Thursday's champagne and caviar Skipper's Reception and Friday's dockside cocktail party brought sailors together. Saturday morning featured the beloved Parade of Sail, a spectacle that perfectly captures what the Camden Classics Cup has become.
Now in its ninth year, the regatta is not only a highlight of the sailing season, but a cherished community event. "The community aspect, the integration of the Youth Regatta, and the annual Saturday parade are all part of why so many of our racers return every year," says Holly Paterson, Camden Classics Cup Director. "Along with the professionalism and dedication of our race committee and the Classic Yacht Owners Association, it's truly a memorable experience." \
Participants agreed wholeheartedly. "The event was perfect—literally nothing could have been done better from a participant's point of view," said Leslie Grossman, owner of the Lyman-Morse 60 Windwalker. "We had three racers onboard who sail all over Maine, and they said it was hands down the best-run event and race they've ever participated in."
Due to fickle winds on Friday, the competition was abridged to a single day of racing. On Saturday, the breeze returned—better than expected—allowing one race on Circle One and three on Circle Two for the daysailers and Cape Dory Typhoon class.
From heritage schooners to nimble daysailers, the 2025 Camden Classics Cup once again proved why it remains one of New England's most anticipated regattas—blending fierce competition with the beauty, tradition, and warm welcome of Camden and Penobscot Bay.
Results
Classics 1: Fresh from the Marblehead-Halifax Race, the Alden-designed ABIGAIL claimed top honors, followed by DULCINEA and NORA.
Classics 2: Concordia Class: OTTER took first in a tight battle among the legendary Ray Hunt-designed, Abeking & Rasmussen-built yawls, with SNOW FALCON and PHALAROPE in second and third.
Schooner & Gaff: The majestic, Maine-built ELLEN C. WELLS sailed to victory.
Vintage 1: The iconic S&S yawl BLACK WATCH led the fleet, with GESTURE and LOKI completing the podium.
Modern Tradition 1: JAX topped the scoreboard, ahead of the Stephens Waring-designed ISOBEL and CAVALLINO.
Modern Tradition 2: MYSTERY bested RESTIVE and ZINGARA.
PHRF Spinnaker 1: The Farr 30 KAOS delivered a sharp performance, followed by TAMARACK and ROCKET QUEEN.
PHRF Spinnaker 2: MISCHIEF proved untouchable, with HIGH ENERGY and LYDIA behind
PHRF Cruise 1: The J/40 EX LIBRIS took first, ahead of KAIT and the Lyman-Morse 60 WINDWALKER
PHRF Cruise 2: REVEL led the way, followed by JOY and MOONDANCE
Daysailer 1: PONYO prevailed, ahead of GRAYCEFUL and VIXEN
Cape Dory Typhoon: Making their regatta debut, the class saw BINGO best FROLIC and ROCKY.
BLACK WATCH was awarded the Camden Classics Cup, with MYSTERY taking home the Lyman-Morse trophy and the Stephens-Waring Spirit of Tradition trophy.
OTTER took home the Concordia trophy while PONYO earned the Artisan Boatworks Day Racer trophy.
The Typhoon trophy went to ROCKY and the Female Skipper award to Wizard.
The Yacht Club Challenge ended with a tie between The New York Yacht Club and The Camden Yacht Club.
