2025 Garmin ORC World Championship Day 4 - No wind day in Tallinn

by Offshore Racing Congress 15 Aug 05:41 BST 8-16 August 2025

Day Four of the Garmin ORC World Championship 2025 in Tallinn, Estonia, powered by A. Le Coq, began under beautiful sunshine — but with the Bay of Tallinn as flat as a mirror.

Classes A and B headed out to the Bravo course area south of Naissaar to wait for wind, while Class C remained ashore with the AP flag hoisted.

For Class C, Race Officer Mihkel Šesterikov summed up the situation simply:

"There was no wind. Whenever a small breeze came in, it started to shift. We had five knots at times, but the race areas were never filled enough to start. The most promising window to begin racing would have been between 3 and 4 p.m., but in the end, it was still not enough to get a race off."

While waiting on the water, sailors and race officials were treated to refreshing drinks from Day Sponsor A. Le Coq, helping to ease the heat and make the sunny downtime more enjoyable. The AP over A signal was finally hoisted at 16:00 on the A and B course areas, and at 16:30 for Class C.

On stage, the James Werts World Project kept spirits high ahead of the Sailors' Dinner, and the day's A. Le Coq prizes found new owners in a lively raffle conducted by marketing manager Katrin Vernik.

Tomorrow, Friday, the Pantaenius Short Offshore Race is scheduled with a start at 10am, with courses tailored to each class:

  • Class A - 47.4 nm: A loop around Aegna and Naissaar islands, extending to the Tallinnamadal lighthouse, returning via Littegrund to finish off the harbour.

  • Class B - 40.7 nm: Similar to Class A's route but without the Kuradimuna mark.

  • Class C - 32.5 nm: Via Aegna, Tallinnamadal, and Keskmadal before heading to the finish.
