GBR team at the Cadet World Championship 2025 at Lake Lipno - Day 5

Having caught up the race schedule on Thursday, we are looking forward to hopefully three races from the end of this regatta. Two races scheduled on Friday and a final race on Saturday.
For some sailors this is the business end of the regatta where every mistake or opportunity taken on the water can provide the point that will make all the difference to their final position, for pride, their country or personal goals. For others it is a chance to enjoy making the most of being part of this fantastic event.
For some sailors this will be their last World Championships as they 'age out' at 17, find the Cadet too small as they grow, or seek new sailing experiences. For some British sailors at this event, Alex, Jemima, Daniel and Monty, this may be their final event, as well as others not able to make it to Czechia. Daniel said that with Cadets he had really enjoyed his time on the water, outside with friends and that he was looking forward to Team Racing at Waldringfield Sailing Club after Cadets. As well as Team Racing, sailors were looking forward to progressing to other classes including Lasers and RS200s. These are talented sailors and any class they choose to get involved with will be very lucky. Aging out does not necessary mean leaving the class, we have former Cadets in our coaching team, including Rhona and Zak who stopped sailing Cadets last year and have been coaching with the GBR team. Rhona said that it was great to coach the Cadets without the same stress as competing, but that she did miss being more distant to the action on the RIB rather than competing.
On the water it was another mixed day for the British team. Day 4's competition leaders, Alex Enkel and Jude Baldock, had a better day finishing 9th and 5th, although unfortunately it wasn't enough to prevent Uliana Postrelko and Katerina Butenko from the Ukraine from taking the yellow bib as overall leaders with two first places. Uliana finished runner up in last year's World Championship in Plymouth and with only a 10 point gap at the top and everything to play for going into the final race on Saturday, it is certainly an exciting end to the regatta. Jemima McMorris and Islay Bromhead continued their excellent form with a 36th and a brilliant 4th place in the final race to move up to 14th overall.
The British team continue to perform strongly in the promotional regatta placing 5 of the top 10 boats. With Mia Stanislaus and Sophie Baer taking a 10 point lead into the final race with a 9th and 3rd on day 5. Mimi Windibank and George Blackwell taking second place with a 6th and 2nd on day 5. Ava Stoddart and Jemima Cox-Olliff sit in 7th, Emily Krailing and Rosie Hancock are 9th and Lewis Walker and Oli Walker in 10th.
The day ended with International night which is a glorious Cadet Class tradition celebrating the culture of the participating nations, mostly through sharing food and drink brought from home. The British team provided ever popular Pimm's and Scampi Fries, whilst sampling waffles and beer from Belgium, frankfurters from Germany, Polish confectionary, and Tim Tams and Bundy and Coke from Australia. This is where lifelong international friendships are made as the children mix, chat and play games.
