Formula Kite in action in Kingston for Sail Canada 2025 Senior Championships

Formula Kite, a new event which made its Olympic debut in Paris last summer, will be showcased in Kingston, August 8-10, during the Sail Canada 2025 Formula Kite Senior Championships.

Sail Canada 2025 Formula Kite Senior Championships will be hosted by CORK/Sail Kingston as part of the Olympic Classes regatta.

A total of 14 athletes will be in action, including past National Team member and Canadian representative at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, Mac Morrin, as well as James Huynh from Brossard, QC, who has been named to Canada's sailing team for the Asunción 2025 Junior Pan American Games, to be held August 9-23 in Asunción, Paraguay.

Qualifier for the 2025 Youth Sailing World Championships

Sail Canada 2025 Formula Kite Senior Championships is also the qualifier for Canadian sailors for the 2025 Youth Sailing World Championships to be held December 12-20 in Vilamoura, Portugal. The best ranked male and female athletes following this event, above the age of 12 years and under 19 years on December 31, 2025, will qualify to be nominated to represent Canada at the 2025 Youth Sailing World Championships.

Competitions are scheduled to start at 12pm on Friday, and at 11am Saturday and Sunday.

Kiteboards will be launched from and returned to Lake Ontario Park, Elevator Bay. However, Gordon Downie Park may be used as an alternative launch site if the wind direction is not favourable

Sail Canada 2025 Formula Kite Senior Championships event is part of a series of eight Sail Canada National and Regional Championships to be held this summer. These competitions provide an opportunity for sailors to train and compete with high-level sailors in their region, in addition to serving as talent identification opportunities for regional and provincial sailing teams, as development and mentoring opportunities for coaches, as well as training and development opportunities for officials and volunteers.
