Noble Marine Enterprise National Championships at Tenby Sailing Club - Day 3

by Charles Morrish 6 Aug 09:17 BST 3-8 August 2025

Thanks to storm Floris there was no sailing on Monday, the Race Officer sensibly gave everyone the day off, making the decision at 08.00 on the Monday morning.

Tuesday brought a F5 from the North West.

The course was the same trapezoid outer loop with three beats.

Race 4

Jon Woodward & Alex Homer were first to the windward mark with Jeremy & Becca Stephen's and Charles Morrish & Dan Swaffield following in close order. At the end of a fast planing reach Jeremy & Becca had taken the lead with Charles & Dan second while Jon & Alex had slipped to third. Jeremy & Becca continued to pull away while Charles & Dan and Jon & Alex battled it out for second.

In the event at the last leeward mark they were 'battling' so hard they allowed boats behind to catch up. Charles & Dan ended up hitting the mark and doing a penalty turn. The main beneficiaries were Paul Young & Mhairi Ogilvie who took second, while Oli Boocock & Luke Hartshorn took third.

Jon & Alex had slipped to 'fourth' and Charles & Dan to 'sixth'. It then transpired that Jon & Alex had been OCS and all that 'battling' had been in vain.

Race 5

Jeremy & Becca Stephen's nailed the pin on a port biased line, after 100m they tacked and crossed the fleet.

With shifty winds at the windward mark Jon Woodward & Alex Homer managed to round just ahead of Jeremy & Becca. These two took off on a plane down the reach and pulled away from the rest of the fleet.

Jeremy & Becca retook the lead at the top of the next beat after which they were never headed and took the gun for a fifth straight win with Jon & Alex second.

Meanwhile third place changed several times: Jeff Dyer & Abbie O'Connor held the position for much of the race losing out to Oli Boocock & Luke Hartshorn and Charles Morrish & Dan Swaffield on the last run; then on the final reach Charles & Dan managed to plane over the Scammonden duo to snatch third.
