2025 Cape Horn Hall of Fame - Short list for voting by members

A shortlist of 15 nominations for induction into this year's Cape Horn Hall of Fame awards, has been announced by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Chairman of the Independent Hall of Fame selection committee.
Drawn from 32 names submitted by the general public earlier this year, the 15 prospective inductees now go forward to a vote by all members of the Int. Assoc. of Cape Horners to select the final 6.
The shortlist include four famous French names, three from the UK, two from Germany and New Zealand and one each from Australia, South Africa and USA.
Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, says: "It is good to see such a wide spread of nominations. The records of all those nominated are all of a very high standard, and it was a hard task simply to select a shortlist this year. The IACH membership now has an even harder job in reducing this to the final 6."
The shortlist which includes three women:
Isabelle Autissier FR, Charlie Dalin FR, Charles Caudrelier FR, Catharine Chabaud FR, Rick Tomlinson UK, Paul Standbridge UK, Eric Newby UK, Samantha Davies UK, Boris Hermann GER, Wilfried Erdmann GER, Conrad Colman NZ, Stuart Bannatyne NZ, Bill Hatfield AUS, John Martin SA, Capt Bill Pinkney USA.
Organised by the International Association of Cape Horners (IACH), in partnership with Les Sables d'Olonne and McIntyre Adventures, the 2025 Cape Horn Hall of Fame will take place at the Royal Maritime Hotel, Portsmouth on Saturday 22nd November 2025, as part of the annual "Cape Horners" reunion lunch.
Archie Fairley, Chairman of IACH, adds "The Cape Horn Hall of Fame Awards has become an important event in the sailing calendar. encouraging future generations to follow in the footsteps of their elders either cruising, or competing in an expanding calendar of events around Cape Horn. These now include the Golden Globe, Jules Verne Challenge, Ocean Globe, Global Solo Challenge, The Ocean Race and Vendée Globe races."
