Race Organiser Southport Yacht Club is excited to announce that a last minute entry into the GCCM Gold Coast Mackay Yacht Race 2025 has been accepted by the Race Committee!
Catching a serious case of FOMO (fear of missing out) at last night's Welcome Party, Elizabeth Tucker has decided to enter her Class 40 'First Light' into the race.
Elizabeth Tucker only recently learned to sail during Covid but has amassed an enormous following online for her big dreams and courageous adventure during her 74 day voyage from Spain with American Cole Brauer delivering First Light to Sydney.
This week, First Light made her racing debut in the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race 2025, where she achieved a remarkable second place on IRC. For the GCCM Gold Coast Mackay Yacht Race, race, Elizabeth was originally crewing on Georgia Express, but now this remarkable sailor will be racing double-handed with Annie Stevenson on her own boat!
First Light is a 2008 Owen Clarke-designed Class40, campaigned by Elizabeth Tucker as part of the Za Ocean Racing Women's Program. The initiative creates opportunities for amateur female sailors to gain experience in offshore racing. Za Ocean Racing is just getting started, with a bold crew, big dreams, and a mission to shake up the status quo offshore, with eyes on the Rolex Sydney Hobart in December.
