After tough conditions out in the bay on Day 1, Day 2 brought all fleets into the flatter waters of Portland Harbour, where a fresh 18 knot breeze served up champagne foiling conditions. Blue, Pink, and 6.9m fleets launched early, with the Yellow fleet tag-teaming the action in the afternoon.
It was a day for the front-runners in the Pink fleet, with four different sailors finding the podium and no shortage of action.
Enzio Savoini (ITA) came out firing in Race 1, taking a bullet ahead of Antonio Gasperini (ESP) and Hippolyte Gruet (FRA). Peter Cope (GBR) responded in Race 2, leading from the front with Gasperini and Gruet again locking in second and third respectively. That trio quickly set the tone for a battle of consistency and pace. Gruet took control in Race 3, flying downwind to take the win while Gasperini continued his rock-solid form with a third straight second. Cope rounded out the top three. The final race saw another shuffle, with Gruet notching his second bullet of the day, Cope close behind in second, and Micha de Weck (SUI) breaking into the top three to close out a highly competitive day.
The Blue fleet put on a show with three different race winners and tight finishes. Pablo Astiazaran Pérez-Cela (ESP) stamped his authority early, taking Race 1 from Mose Bellomi (ITA), with Thomas Sitzmann (USA) showing early consistency in third. Gavin Ball (USA) stormed through in Race 2, finding his stride and charged into the lead. Matthis Johnson (FRA) secured second, while Sitzmann quietly built another strong result in third. Bellomi hit back in Race 3, converting a clean start into a bullet. Sitzmann climbed to second, and Jasper Camenzind (NZL) joined the podium hunt in third. In Race 4, it was Pablo once again at the front, taking his second win of the day. Sitzmann delivered his most consistent day yet with a fourth consecutive top-three, and Johnson added another solid third.
The Yellow fleet arrived on course in the afternoon and didn't waste time heating things up. After two general recalls in Race 1, the fleet finally got away cleanly. Federico Bergamasco (ITA) dominated the day, scoring two bullets and two second-place finishes to sit firmly at the top. But it wasn't uncontested. Hoel Menard (USA) and Caspar Ilgenstein (GER) each broke through for a win, showing they've got the speed to disrupt the leaderboard. Rory Dixon (GBR) pulled off a brilliant second in Race 2, and Andrew Chisholm (CAN) earned a well-fought third in Race 3.
In the women's standings, Pearl Lattanzi (USA) has built an impressive 17-point lead over Louise Metenier (FRA), staking an early claim on the top spot. But it's far from over—Mina Ferguson (AUS) is just 8 points behind Metenier, with Rachael Betschart (BER) right on her heels. With plenty of racing still to come, it's all to play for.
With qualifying now complete, the 8.2m/7.5m fleets are set to split into Gold, Silver, and Bronze for finals day. Multiple nations remain in the hunt for overall glory, and with just one point separating Bergamasco and Hippolyte Gruet at the top, and 6 points between the top five, the Gold fleet is shaping up for a showdown. Expect fierce battles in Silver and Bronze too, with race wins still wide open.
The 6.9s continued to impress, with Olivia Castaldi (ITA) making a statement right out of the gate—taking Race 1 and following it up with two second-place finishes in a dominant display. Jacopo Andrian (ITA) stayed right in the hunt, never finishing outside the top three and sealing his day with a win in Race 4. Pietro Moncada (ITA) matched the form with a bullet in Race 3 and a second in Race 1. Riccardo Bille (ITA) kept it consistent with top-five results all day, including a well-earned win in Race 2. Meanwhile, Lina Fries (SUI) delivered an eye-catching third in Race 3, plus a solid string of results before returning to shore. With four different winners and just six points separating the top three overall, the 6.9 fleet is serving up some thrilling racing.
