A lovely warm and sunny day greeted 26 ILCA sailors at Notts County Sailing Club on 12th of July 2025. The wind was from a steady light south east breeze with occasional 14 mph gusts.

Rebecca Ogden led the race team, and set a double beat with slightly different angles to allow for any wind swings, with reaches and runs providing an interesting course.

Race 1 got away with Nickolas Welbourn (Stokes Bay) taking an early lead from John Ling (Bartley) only to let John past to win race one, with Luke Wilshire (Ogston) coming home third. Simon Parker came home first Notts County member in fourth.

The spot prize went to Phill Henson for being down a couple of hours before the race but did not make it in time and missed the start gun of race 1.

This was followed by lunch, provided at a discount by Waitrose, along with iced water to help prevent dehydration for competitors and helpers.

Race 2 followed and Nickolas Welbourn sailed away from the fleet to win with a clear margin with the rest chasing his heels but unable to find the speed to match him.

Race 3 saw local hero Alan Kenyon (Notts County) round the first mark in front and go on to be first NCSC boat overall. He could not however stop Nickolas Welbourn from passing him as the wind increased. Second was Chirstine Stathem (Attenborough/Burton) who sailed great to come home second in race 3 and fourth overall.

The two back to back races were followed by complementary watermelon for after-racing hydration, and prize-giving.
