Melges 24 European Sailing Series 2025 in Monfalcone - Day 2

by International Melges 24 Class Association 5 Jul 18:14 BST 4-6 July 2025

The Bora wind made its mark on the second day of the seventh event of the 2025 Melges 24 European Sailing Series, also serving as the second stage of the 2025 Trofeo Gaudi, hosted by Yacht Club Monfalcone in collaboration with the International and Italian Melges 24 Class Associations.

With a strong north-easterly breeze reaching 20 knots early in the morning and easing as the day progressed, the race committee, led by PRO Roberto Sponza, took full advantage of the conditions to complete three races. The morning races delivered fast-paced, high-adrenaline action, while the final race tested the fleet with lighter and more tactical conditions.

Three different race winners emerged over the day.

Nefeli (scores: 1-3-11), helmed by Peter Karrie, extended her overall lead by securing a strong first race result and maintaining steady form throughout. Melgina (4-1-3), skippered by Paolo Brescia, demonstrated consistency and resilience, managing to contain Nefeli's early gains and finishing the day just two points behind the leader. Vertigo (2-9-1), a Corinthian team helmed by Antonio Masoli, showed impressive speed in the morning and moved up to fourth overall. Ahead of them, Strambapapà (3-2-14), with Michele Paoletti at the helm, slipped in the final race but held on to third place in the overall standings.

In the Corinthian division, Vertigo now leads the standings, followed by Chinook (9-4-2), skippered by Ákos Csoltó, and Zhik Race Team (5-6-16), led by Miles Quinton and helmed by Geoff Carveth, in third among the Corinthian teams and sixth overall.

With one final day of racing to go, the battle for both the overall and Corinthian titles remains wide open. Winners of the Monfalcone regatta will be crowned on Sunday afternoon at the Yacht Club Monfalcone.

The regatta is organized by Yacht Club Monfalcone, under the leadership of its President Germano Scarpa, in collaboration with the International Melges 24 Class Association and the Italian Melges 24 Class.
