Strale (1967) by Antonio Bandini of the Circolo Velico Ravennate wins the Overall of the XII Principality of Monaco Trophy. The two scheduled races of the Trophy, promoted by AnnaLicia Balzan, Honorary Consul of the Principality of Monaco in Venice, took place on Saturday and Sunday with calm seas and a light breeze from the South-East.
The Trophy, which this year saw twenty-seven boats lined up on the starting line, was organized with the sporting direction of Mirko Sguario, president of the Yacht Club Venezia and the collaboration of the Circolo Velico Il Portodimare with the patronage of A.I.V.E. (Associazione Italiana Vele d'Epoca).
In the morning, along the banks of the San Marco basin, the public was able to admire the Ladies of the Sea during the spectacular sailing that distinguishes the Principality of Monaco Trophy. The event, hosted by the Boat Show and the Navy, ended in the Arsenale, the results of the individual regattas will compete for the assignment of the 2025 A.I.V.E. Adriatic Cup.
On behalf of the Rotary Club of Venice, which was celebrating the centenary of its foundation, Prince Giovanni Alliata di Montereale presented a plaque dedicated to Sorella, the oldest racing boat in the Mediterranean. A gaff cutter launched in England by Dan Hatcher shipyard in 1858, it now sails with students from the Francesco Morosini Naval School of Venice on board and is the oldest sailing vessel in the Navy fleet, surpassing in age even the Amerigo Vespucci launched in 1931. The Rotary Club of Venice also offered a donation to the Princess Charlene Foundation of Monaco, which has been committed for years to preventing drowning around the world.
"We have reached the twelfth edition, driven by the wind of passion for vintage sails," commented Anna Licia Balzan during the awards ceremony. "The success of participation in this edition of the Trophy once again demonstrates the strong bond between the Principality of Monaco and Venice, united by a long history of maritime culture".
